High Purity - Extrude Hone
AFM Applications in High Purity

Within the high purity sector and many other industries, the Extrude Hone Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM) process is regarded as the leading deburring and polishing process. AFM significantly improves the overall quality and performance of cast, forged and machined components at a reasonable and predictable cost. Moreover, our AFM process meets Ultra High Purity (UHP) standards for single-digit-ppb results.

We leverage our advanced AFM process to polish internal (wetted) surfaces of components that make up complex piping systems, including:

  • » Tube fittings including elbows, tees and reducers
  • » Diaphragm valve bodies
  • » Mass flow controllers
  • » Check valve housings
  • » Bellows valve bodies
  • » Regulator bodies
We also offer a large selection of standard chromatograph tubing available from inventory along with other tube finishing services.

Our precision AFM process is used to finish the inside diameters (ID) of tubes to very close surface finish tolerances. We offer stock sizes of 316 stainless steel tubing in lengths from 1.95 inches up to 39 inches (5.0 to 100 cm) and ID sizes from 0.016 inches up to 2.5 inches (0.40 mm to 63.5 mm) and ID surface finishes ranging from 9 to14 µ inch Ra (0.22–0.35 µm) for liquid and gas chromatograph, ultra pure transfer of foods, medical analysis and many other applications.

Using AFM, surface finish improvements of 100 percent on average are possible, resulting in superior surface preparation for gold plating and electro polishing. AFM processing is also compatible with components made from stainless steel, titanium, aluminum and aluminum alloys, and carbon steel.

As the high purity industry continues to evolve, Extrude Hone’s AFM process will maintain an active role in improving component performance with superior surface finish and cleanliness results:

  • » Eliminated surface flaws and other contaminates
  • » Improved surface quality and overall cleanliness (single-digit-ppb)
  • » Smoothed, ultra-uniform surfaces
  • » Improved functionality, durability and reliability of components
  • » Increased production rates
  • » Reduced production costs
We also offer a large selection of standard chromatograph tubing available from inventory along with other tube finishing services.

Extrude Hone AFM processing is also available through our global network Contract Finishing Services locations.
